Hydraulic plan: what it is, types, symbols, elements, examples

What is a hydraulic plan?

A hydraulic plane It is a map of the circuit of pipes, valves, keys, pumps, hoses, hydraulic cylinders, tanks, power sources of a system that works with a fluid.

For example, in a house there are several hydraulic circuits: the cold water circuit, the hot water circuit, the gas circuit and the sewage circuit.

The hydraulic plan is an extraordinary tool in the design, maintenance and repair of any hydraulic circuit.

Types of hydraulic plane

There are four types of hydraulic drawing: block diagram, sectional diagram, diagrams with figures, and graphical diagram.

block diagram

The block diagram shows the hydraulic circuit components as boxes connected with lines. It is useful to have a global view of the system and to know how its parts are connected and related.

cutting diagram

The usefulness of this diagram is that it shows the internal construction of some of the components of the circuit, as well as their connections. This results in a greater understanding of the operation and usefulness of each of the parts.

This diagram is generally colored, or with a pattern that allows you to quickly identify the flow direction and the pressure difference.

pictorial diagram

This diagram uses realistic illustrations, drawings or photographs of the external or visible parts of the piping and fittings in the circuit, which allows for quick recognition of the parts when the actual circuit is being inspected.

graphic diagram

It is a standardized system where symbols, with simple geometric shapes, are used to represent the different components of a hydraulic circuit.

It is the most widely used and preferred diagram both for design and for repair and maintenance of a hydraulic system.

The two rules that are usually used in this type of diagrams are:

The ANSI standard of “American National Standardization Institute”.
The ISO standard of the «International Organization for Standardization».

This type of diagram shows the path and route that the fluid follows in the hydraulic system and shows its parts with symbolic shapes; For this reason, it is the most indicated to identify failures and their solutions in hydraulic systems.
