A new success story has arrived at ! This is Alberto Enrich, a KeepCoder from the Full Stack DevOps Bootcamp. Enrich has more than 20 years of experience in the technology sector and came to this house, with the aim of focus your profile towards a specialty that would allow you to get a job with great benefits and greater possibilities.
Alberto is originally from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. At the age of 10 he moved to Almería and later to Madrid to finish his university studies. Currently, he lives in this city with his wife and his 10-year-old son.
A few days ago we spoke with Alberto and this is what he told us:
When did you enter the technological world?
I’m not a programmer. I started as a software tester for a former North American multinational that was dedicated to the translation of technical documents and was beginning its first steps in software localization. My first professional job was testing the Office 97 Suite from Microsoft in different languages and also the Encarta 99 encyclopedia.
Tell us a little about your work experience
A big part of my professional life I have dedicated it to software testing, both in large systems, such as Telefónica’s video on demand and IPTV services platform (called Imagenio) and which we now know as Movistar Fusión.
Also OSS and BSS solutions for telecommunications operators, where billing, customer service and marketing processes were integrated and automated, to content management applications for web platformsmockups and proofs of concept for R&D&I projects.
Between 2000 and 2019 I worked at Telenium SL, an IT services consultancy, where I specialized in software quality and where I had the opportunity to carry out the challenge of creating the company’s Quality Area.
What did you do for work before doing the Bootcamp?
Due to the needs of the company, and due to its internationalization when entering the pharmaceutical market in Switzerland, back in 2014, my role changed to Service and Capability Manager and My responsibilities changed more to the commercial and management side, dedicating myself to the selection and management of talent for the group’s companies.
Unfortunately, that adventure ended in 2019 when the company closed its operations and I was forced to look for a job. It was at that moment that I detected signs of intelligent life coming from a system called . I was very interested in the DevOps Bootcamp that was taught there, since It allowed me to catch up on technologies and methodology that are currently in high demand. and also because the possibilities of recycling, after 6 years separated from the technical world, were very high.
How was your experience at the Bootcamp?
The experience has been excellent and highly recommended.
It is true that you suffer a lot, and that you have to dedicate a lot of effort, time and be constant, but, All that effort is worth it, because you learn a lot and above all you realize how capable you can be and that the goals you set for yourself are achievable with perseverance and willpower.
What was your biggest challenge within the Bootcamp?
Without a doubt, understanding the Containers, Kubernetes and CI/CD modules were the great challenges. K8S for a computer scientist is like quantum physics for a physicist… but it is possible to understand it… it will be another thing to master it.
Do you think that this training has provided you with a relevant change in your work life?
Thanks to this training, I found a job.
It’s true that I started working before starting the bootcamp; but I sincerely believe that during the selection process, having informed of my intention to attend a 6-month DevOps bootcamp, greatly helped those responsible for making the final decision They will opt for my candidacy.
What big goal do you want to achieve now?
In the Development department that I currently report to, all services have been migrated to the AWS cloud and Kubernetes is the orchestrator with which the qa and pre-production environments are built. The issue of achieving a true integration and deployment cycle will be addressed shortly.
We currently work with Git as a version controller and Jenkins to launch repetitive and routine integration tasks; which allow me to subsequently test the bug-fixing of the approved pull-requests, before giving my approval and moving to Production. My objective is be able to achieve true continuous integration and to true continuous deployment; adding layers of tests that are launched automatically.
Do you notice a substantial improvement in salaries if you compare what you earn now and what you earned before doing the Bootcamp?
Yes, definitely. If you are able to master all these technologies, your cache increases in value.
Do you think you now have many more job opportunities than before?
Without a doubt… besides, knowledge does not take up space. And he could end up saying that During the Bootcamp I have seen things that I never thought could happen; It is amazing to be able to see and experience the automation of absolutely everything; from the creation of resources in the cloud for the deployment of your application using tools such as Ansible and Terraform, the integration of your services and the execution of unit, integration, end-to-end tests and the subsequent destruction of everything that was created using tools like Jenkins and GitLab, to deployment in production environments with tools like Docker and Kubernetes, with the click of a button. It seems like magic!
