Cleaning the rodent cage
Whether it’s a rabbit, hamster, guinea pig or mouse, maintaining your rodent’s cage remains the same:
– Daily, remember to remove excessively wet and dirty areas from the waste box.

Once a week, do a thorough cleaning of your rodent cage.
To start, throw out the trash, food scraps, and nesting materials (the cotton balls your hamster makes its bed in, for example).
Clean not only the bathtub, but also the bowls, wheels, bottles, and all plastic toys with washing up liquid.
Also remember to wash the bars of the cage, as some rodents climb on the bars and relieve themselves.
If the cage is very dirty, you can disinfect it. To thoroughly clean your rodent cage, use diluted bleach or white vinegar with antiseptic and anti-mold properties.
In either case, be sure to rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Finally, put the new litter and all the accessories in their place.
Daily cleaning.
For the comfort of your bird, it is advisable to do a small daily cleaning of its cage or aviary. Depending on the number of birds present and the species present, cleaning may be necessary every day.
To maintain good hygiene, you should clean the bottom of the cage or aviary by removing droppings, feathers, seeds or food debris. Take care that your bird does not escape from its cage during this operation, or transfer it to another cage while cleaning is in progress.
Bird cages with a removable bottom are very convenient to use because they allow very quick cleaning of your bird’s environment. Simply remove the drawers, empty them, rinse them and put them back in their place in the cage.
If your cage doesn’t have one, feel free to have some paper towels or newspaper in the bottom to make it easier to clean your cage.
Once the cage floor has been cleaned, consider adding a thin layer of aniseed grit. Composed of natural nutrients such as oyster shells, aniseed grit helps keep the cage clean, regulates humidity, and provides minerals that are good for your bird’s health.
Also remember to check the cleanliness of the drinkers and wash and disinfect them periodically to prevent the formation of scale and the proliferation of bacteria.
Clean your bird cage
For the care of your birds, take the time each day to change the materials you use to soil the floor of their cage (newspaper or paper towels).
Wash the bottom tray and cage racks weekly.
To do this, use a dishwashing liquid to clean the dirt and diluted bleach or disinfectant vinegar.
Do not skip either of these two steps: if the bleach disinfects, it does not clean.
There is no substitute for a good soapy wash to clean your birds cage.

Never use bleach and white vinegar at the same time!
This is because the mixture of these two liquids is produced by a chemical reaction of chlorine gas, which is toxic to both you and your pets.
