Change a radiator valve
A simple operation that does not require the use of a plumber.
It is common to hear that you are not a plumber. However, changing a radiator valve is an operation within everyone’s reach.

It just requires being meticulous and investing in a minimum of equipment. So whether you’re fixing a leaky faucet or simply want to replace your old radiator faucet with a thermostatic model to save money.
With a pair of pliers, some joint compound, and some plumbing thread, you can easily overcome this problem!
Start by draining the radiator
The first thing to do if you want change he radiator tap is to bleed the heater.
The ventilation of your radiator will allow you to eliminate the air that may be in the radiator circuits. To do this, it’s simple:
Turn off the boiler pump and wait about ten minutes;Unscrew the bleed screw on the opposite side of the radiator valve with a pair of pliers;The water will run out then: collect it in a small container;When there is no more water, you can tighten the drain screw again.
Remove the old radiator valve
Before put a new tap on your radiator, I should remove the old one, it makes sense. Again, there is nothing complicated about it:
Remove the center screw from the valve. Using the multi-socket pliers, unscrew the nuts between the faucet and the heater’s water supply. If the radiator has been painted, there may also be paint on the nuts that is blocking them. In this case, simply scrape the paint lightly with a wire brush to loosen the bolts and unscrew them. Remove the faucet. During this step, do not hesitate to place a basin under the tap in case there is any water left in the circuit.
Good to Know: If you find that the old nuts on your faucet are a bit seized, don’t force them.
Coat them with a special non-stick product, leave it for a few minutes, and then try again.

To ensure that there will be no sealing issues in your installation, there is one small step before installing your new radiator valve.
After brushing the hose nozzle with a wire brush, you can liberally spread the sealing paste over the valve fitting and the hose nozzle of the delivery tube.
Then roll some thread (available at all DIY stores) clockwise, always on the supply hose.
Install the new radiator valve
After draining the radiator, removing the old valve and ensuring the tightness of the installation, it’s time to take the last step – the installation of the new valve. This is how to proceed:
screw the new thermostatic valve with its bolts and tighten it well, always using the multi-socket pliers. You can reopen the water supply to the heating system. Check for leaks by placing your finger around the new tap. Leave the sink under the new faucet: if the water is running, you’ll soon notice. If this is the case, just tighten the bolts. Finish by bleeding the radiator again to remove excess air.
