CCleaner is the best free registry cleaner I’ve tried.
It’s easy to use, prompts you to back up the registry before you make changes, and includes a number of other useful tools.
Piriform provides both installable and portable versions of its free registry cleaner.

Wise Registry Cleaner
Wise Registry Cleaner is very close to the other top-rated registry fix tools. They have created a fantastic free registry cleaner program.
Some major advantages to Wise’s free registry cleaner include fast registry scans, scheduled scans, in-place updates, and a clear separation between normal issues and those that are «unsafe,» a feature I loved.
I don’t like the fact that Wise Registry Cleaner pushes to download Wise Disk Cleaner at the end of the installation, but it’s easy to skip.
Wise Registry Cleaner comes in both installable and portable versions and can be used on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP. 64-bit versions of Windows are supported.
I tried the installable version of Wise Registry Cleaner v10.1.5 on Windows 10.

JetClean
JetClean, a free registry cleaner from BlueSprig, isn’t one I see mentioned much, but I found it to be very well done.
JetClean scans the entire registry in just a few seconds and has a well-designed interface.
There are two major things I didn’t like about JetClean. One: the number of cookies that JetClean considers maintainable, by default, is a bit excessive. Two: It attempts to install a toolbar, but may reject it during installation.
I also don’t like that there isn’t a readily available portable version of JetClean. Yes, there is one, but you must «generate» one from the installed version of JetClean on your computer. Strange!
JetClean registry cleaner supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
I tested JetClean v1.5.0 on Windows 10 and Windows 7.

Auslogics Registry Cleaner
Auslogics Registry Cleaner is another excellent registry cleaner program – it’s probably one of the easiest registry cleaners to use out of all the tools I’ve tried.
My favorite feature of Auslogics Registry Cleaner is the color severity rating for each category of registry area that the program finds to need attention. This makes it really easy to find out what can have an impact on your computer.
If the various top-rated registry repair tools on my list aren’t giving you the results you’ve been looking for, give Auslogics Registry Cleaner a try.

AML Registry Cleaner was not on this list when I first put it together, which was an obvious oversight on my part. The free AML registration tool has been the most reader-suggested addition to these programs.
The interface is a bit «old» in style, but AML Registry Cleaner makes up for it with a solid registry search, a bunch of additional still-free tools, and a long track record of never accidentally causing more trouble.
AML Registry Cleaner works on both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP, as well as some Windows Server operating systems.

Glarysoft Registry Repair is another good free registry cleaner. Registry repair is fairly simple to use and is a good option if some of the better tools don’t work for you.

Slim Cleaner Free
I was quite impressed with SlimCleaner Free. In addition to the standard registry cleaning capabilities, there are many completely free extras with this program, such as software update checks, startup optimization, system cleaning, and much more.
SlimCleaner Free works on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000.
I tried SlimCleaner Free v4.1 on Windows 10 and Windows 7.

jv16 PowerTools Lite is a free registry cleaner created by Macecraft, makers of several popular Windows utilities. jv16 PowerTools Lite was fast and found a similar number of unnecessary registry entries as other tools in this area of my list.
No toolbars or other programs tried to install like other free registry cleaners.

Kingsoft PC Doctor
Kingsoft PC Doctor is another registry cleaner integrated into a software suite.
This program is really easy to use, and the registry cleaner does not hide in the background, it is very easy to detect and run without problems.
One thing I didn’t like about Kingsoft PC Doctor is that you can’t schedule a registry cleanup at a later date, instead you have to run it manually. While this is the case, manual scans find a large number of errors that are just one click away from being removed.
Kingsoft PC Doctor is said to work with Windows 7, Vista and XP, but I tried v3.7 on Windows 8 and Windows 10 without any problems.

EasyCleaner
EasyCleaner is one of the oldest and most trusted free registry cleaners out there. The interface is a bit dated, but it’s a solid registry repair tool.
EasyCleaner took a lot longer than other registry cleaners to scan my registry but it did a good job overall. I also liked the way I wasn’t prompted to install a completely unrelated and useless browser toolbar during installation!
Both the installer and the portable versions of this registry cleaner are available.
The ToniArts website says that EasyCleaner works on Windows XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98 and 95, but you may also have luck using it on newer versions of Windows.
I tried EasyCleaner v2.0.6.380 on Windows 8 without any problem, but it didn’t work properly for me on Windows 10.

Argente Registry Cleaner
Argente Registry Cleaner is a registry cleaner that guides you through a small wizard when you first open the program, making troubleshooting fairly easy. It encountered just as many problems as the other programs on this list.
Registry backups are automatically created before anything in the registry is deleted, and an automatic maintenance mode does all the cleaning for you when your computer first boots up, without any intervention on your part, which is really nice. .
