Each of the elements of this symbol has a special meaning. For example, the white star represents the Province of Trujillo, which was one of the seven provinces that joined to declare the independence of Venezuela in 1811.
The Trujillo flag was created by Manuel Núñez Gil in 1994. In November of that same year, it was adopted as the official flag of the region.
History
In 1994, a public contest was held for the purpose of designing the Trujillo state flag. The winner was Manuel Núñez Gil, a teacher from the Trujillo city of Santa Ana.
On November 18 of that year, the state government adopted the flag as its official symbol, a title it has held ever since.
Meaning of the Trujillo state flag
The Trujillo flag is made up of two stripes: one red and one white. The red stripe represents the blood that the patriots shed to free Venezuela from the Spanish yoke.
In general, this color is associated with war, but it also represents the blood of persevering workers in the fields.
In contrast, the white stripe represents peace, justice and happiness. This strip is usually related to the War Regularization and Armistice treaties that the Liberator Simón Bolívar carried out in the city of Santa Ana (in 1820).
On the left side of the pavilion, there is a green triangle. This color symbolizes the ecological areas of Venezuela: the plains, the Andean valleys, among others. Likewise, the green color reflects the importance of agriculture for the Trujillo community.
In the center of the triangle, there is a white star, similar to those that can be seen in the national flag. On the Venezuelan flag, the stars represent the provinces that joined to declare the country’s independence in 1811.
Because Trujillo was one of these provinces, a star was added to its flag, which symbolizes the participation of said state in the war against the Spanish Crown.
Inside the triangle, the silhouette of a dove with outstretched wings can be seen. Traditionally, these animals are associated with peace. Thus, the dove serves to reinforce the meaning of the white stripe of the flag.
There are those who point out that each of the sides of the triangle represents a relevant monument of the Trujillo state.
This figure could be associated with the Iglesia Catedral del Señor de Santiago de Nuestra Señora de la Paz, with the national monument in honor of the War Regularization and Armistice treaties, and with the monument of Nuestra Señora de la Paz.
