6 Advantages and Disadvantages of Digital Presentations

The Digital or electronic presentations have their advantages and disadvantagesbut they are, to this day, one of the most used elaborations in conferences, work meetings or academic exhibitions for the sample of a project.

Electronic presentations allow the insertion of text, photographs, tables and even videos or sound clips, which facilitates the transmission of information through visual, auditory and even kinesthetic resources.

In addition, the use of pre-designed slides or templates simplifies the demonstration of information to the audience. It is always easier to expose a dense content through outlines or summary tables, which help to synthesize the fundamental precepts of the subject to be dealt with.

However, electronic presentations are not exempt from presenting some weaknesses from the point of view of security in the protection of information and originality in the content of the presentations.

Advantages and disadvantages of preparing electronic presentations today

Advantages

1- Flexibility in design

The tools used to create electronic presentations usually offer templates with the essential skeleton depending on the type of slide: presentation, beginning of a section, comparative slides, content slides, etc.

The pre-loaded templates have a variety of designs (colors, shapes, layout) attractive enough to please all tastes.

The electronic design also allows for quick and easy editing of the content, since it is possible to include or remove information, images or graphics from a slide with just one click.

It is also extremely easy to delete slides, or rearrange them according to the taste of the presenter.

2- Use of multimedia resources

Electronic presentations allow the embedding of audiovisual resources such as audio or video clips, as a dynamic part of the slides.

Likewise, these types of tools also usually include transition functions between the slides, and there is even the possibility of adding special animations for each text or image that is part of the presentation.

3- They can be projected in front of large audiences

Given the practicality of the final presentation, this type of resource can be projected in front of a large audience, without the speaker losing visual contact with the attendees.

In addition, the easy transition between slides greatly facilitates the development of presentations.

Disadvantages

4- Dependence on technological resources

There are minimal technological requirements to successfully reproduce these types of presentations. At least one computer, one projector, one reflection screen and one nearby electrical point to power the equipment to be used.

However, once the initial investment in the necessary software and hardware has been made, the cost of creating electronic filings is next to nothing.

5- Danger of loss of information

The electronic file can be damaged or deleted from the equipment, as a result of a computer virus, or due to an inadvertent error of the person handling the device.

That is why it is extremely important to save backup versions of the digital presentation, to avoid this type of contingency.

6- Risk of occurrence of technical defects

There is always a risk of electrical or sound failure, the occurrence of errors in the computer terminals, or a reproduction problem in the presentation due to incompatibility between the program installed on the equipment and the version of the document.
