120 Examples of Simple Syllables

The simple syllables They are the syllables that are formed with a consonant letter and a vowel letter, or a single vowel. In these cases, most of the time the consonant precedes the vowel. For example, «table» has two simple syllables: me (consonant m and vowel e), sa (consonant s and vowel a).

A syllable consists of one or more letters that represent a unit of spoken language consisting of a single uninterrupted sound. A syllable can be made up of a single vowel or a combination of a vowel and a consonant.

A word consisting of only one syllable is called monosyllable. A word that contains two or more syllables is polysyllable.

Simple syllables are contrasted with compound syllables. The latter are made up of a vowel and two consonants, while simple syllables are only formed with a vowel and a consonant or just a vowel. Monosyllabic words by definition are made up of single syllables.
